An Invitation from Pastor Janet
In 2003, while I was Senior Pastor at First Church in Media, I was dragged kicking and screaming on an international mission trip to Honduras. It was such a life changing experience that I have been going to Honduras, Mexico and Costa Rica yearly since then!
I travel with Discovery Service Projects, a charitable, United Methodist-affiliated organization based in Doylestown. We do construction with established Christian groups in these countries. In the 15 years I’ve been going we have built homes, churches, schools, community centers, dorms, and clinics. We interact with local workers and the people who will use our buildings. I have shoveled sand, shaped rebar, done meal prep, led Bible school, distributed Communion, made “goodie bags” for children, and various other tasks. Others from the churches I serve and the area accompany me on these trips, and we take school supplies, toothbrushes, and children’s socks with us. The mission trips are a way for us to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through our deeds and example.
If you want to know more, are interested in going along (February 17-24, 2019), or want to donate items, please contact me through one of the church offices (Hancock or Covenant).
