Covenant ASP Team: 2025 Summer Mission Trip to Knott County, Kentucky
On Saturday, Covenant Church will send a dedicated team of nine volunteers to participate in the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) at the Lotts Creek Center in Knott County, Kentucky. This summer, with the help of thousands of volunteers, ASP will continue to provide much-needed assistance to residents who lost their homes in the devastating floods of 2022, 2024, and 2025.
Covenant’s ASP team is heading to Knott County to help rebuild homes for families affected by the floods that ravaged the region in 2022. Many residents of Knott County faced significant losses, and ASP aims to restore hope and stability to these communities. By engaging in hands-on construction work, the team will not only help to rebuild physical structures but also foster a sense of community and support among those who have been impacted.
“Be the Light”
ASP’s theme for the 2025 summer program is “Be the Light,” inspired by Matthew 5:16. This verse and the larger context of Matthew 5:13-16, encourages us to be the presence of Christ for others through our good works. Our shared story as God’s people is full of images of light and God’s call for us to be light for others, helping to make visible the power and presence of Jesus.
The story of God’s people in Matthew’s gospel is full of hope that assures us of God’s unconditional love for each of us, challenges us to live as service-minded disciples of Christ, and encourages us to love and serve our neighbors. When we let our light shine, it is not to draw attention to ourselves, but rather we help to make God’s love visible to others.
Light comes from the resilience of our neighbors, the outpouring of support from our church, our communities, our families, and the small acts of kindness we witness each day. Each small sign of light reflects Christ’s love made visible through good works. The Covenant ASP Team aims to Be the Light as service-minded followers of Christ in this season of rebuilding and recovery.
The team will be leaving for Kentucky this Saturday, June 28th at 9am. Community and church members are invited to come and see us off. Please arrive at the church by 8:30 am to offer your support and encouragement as the team embarks on this meaningful journey.
The Covenant ASP team’s mission trip to Lotts Creek, Kentucky represents a profound commitment to service, faith, and community. By rebuilding homes for those affected by flooding, we will not only provide tangible assistance but also embody the love and compassion that lies at the heart of their faith. As we embark on this journey, we will carry with us the theme of “Be the Light,” a reminder of the impact we can make in the lives of others and the strength that comes from serving together.
