June’s Communion Chalice – A Husband’s Tribute to His Wife

The chalice, used on June 5 (Pentecost and Communion Sunday), was designed and crafted in 1988 by Covenant member Leon (Lee) Sperow in memory of his wife Elizabeth H. Sperow who passed away in 1987. Lee was an engineer at General Electric, a jewelry maker and long-time Covenant member. Lee passed away in 2009. This sterling silver chalice has two designs on its base. One is the cross and flame, symbol of the United Methodist Church. The other symbol is the cross with the letters “IHS”, a symbol and monogram for Jesus.
