Rev. Doyne Sumner Remembers Covenant as His “Alma Mater”

Over the years God has called sons and daughters of Covenant into pastoral ministry. As part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration, we’ve invited them to participate in services or to reflect on what Covenant meant to them as they pursued this opportunity to serve God. On July 3, we heard from Rev. Doyne Sumner who came to the US from Gambia, joined Covenant in 1990, and went on to become a Licensed Local Pastor. He served Mt. Zion UMC in Darby as Associate Pastor for 25 years until his retirement. Doyne thanked Covenant for its support as he and his wife, Fatmateh (Faye) settled as immigrants, raised their children and pursued this calling. He considers Covenant his “alma mater.” You can see Doyne’s message as part of the worship service below. Over the next several weeks, we will hear from others who have been called from among us.
