Delco Souper Bowl of Caring: How You Can Make a Difference
For more than 25 years—since 1998—Covenant UMC has participated in the Souper
Bowl of Caring, an effort dedicated to fighting hunger in our community. Hunger and
food insecurity continue to have serious and lasting effects on children and families, and
the need in Delaware County remains significant.
Food Insecurity in Delaware County
- 17.7% of children in the county are considered food insecure, however, 43% are likely ineligible for federal nutrition programs
- 66,360 residents overall face food insecurity
The above figures are from the Map the Meal Gap (most recent data from 2023). These numbers continue to rise, underscoring the importance of collective action.
You can help support our community by participating in the Delco Souper Bowl of
Caring Food Drive this February. There are several ways to get involved:
Community Food Drive
We need volunteer crews to make this food drive happen!
Email [email protected] to sign up for a route.
Get-the-Word-Out: Saturday, January 31 – Tuesday, February 3
Assist with distributing food drive door hangers to households in: Aston, Morton, Ridley, Rutledge, Springfield, Swarthmore, and Westbrook Park. Due to the dangerously low temperatures scheduled for Saturday, January 31, crew leaders will be determining the best time between Saturday and Tuesday to deliver door hangers.
Bring-the-Food-In: Saturday, February 7
Help collect donations from the same communities and deliver them to designated collection sites.
