Celebrating 100 Years of Faith, Hope & Love

A video of wedding photographs was created as part of Covenant's Anniversary Year.

A celebration of marriage, commitment and vow renewal was held on September 18 in the Sanctuary. Couples took the opportunity to renew their vows surrounded by friends and family.

The Covenant's spaces that were renovated in 2019-2020 before the pandemic will be dedicated on October 23 during a dedication and luncheon in Fellowship Hall after the 10:15 worship service. Reservation deadline is Oct. 2.

On August 24, Covenant welcomed Deacon Diana Esposito. Diana's primary responsibilities are ministries to families, children and youth, and community outreach.

Haydn McLean grew up at Covenant and went on to serve churches in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference as well as several hospital chaplancies. He retired as chaplain of Hershey Medical Center.

Rev. Roney (Associate Pastor from 1972-1977) remembers Covenant as a learning experience for a young pastor where the innovative met the traditional.

Support for Ukraine is shown in Sanctuary decorations, prayers and financial support through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

1972-1997 was a time of great activity and intense involvement in missions and ministries to support children, alleviate hunger, and address homelessness in our local community, in the nation, and around the world.

Rev. Mark Young, who served Covenant from 2009 to 2012, gave the message on July 31. He grew up in Springfield and commented on the changes.

As part of Covenant's ongoing 100th anniversary celebration, on Sunday during the ASP Service we were honored to have past and present volunteers from the Covenant Appalachia Service Project (ASP) team offer reflections on ASP, followed by the dedication of ASP Hall.

God has called several sons and daughters of Covenant into pastoral ministry. As part of the Anniversary Celebration, we've invited them to reflect on what Covenant has meant to them during their Spiritual Journey.

Janice Puliti felt called to the ministry during an Ash Wednesday service at Covenant. She reflects on the ministers and friends at Covenant who encouraged her to answer the Call, and the activities that led her there.

On June 26, Covenant said goodbye to the Rutledge Family as they move to Berwyn UMC.

Using objects and architecture elements unique to Covenant, Jennifer Terry fashioned this photo collage that spells “Covenant”.  Those with continuous membership of 50 or more years received this gift.

On Covenant’s 100th Pentecost, members with 50 or more years of continuous membership were honored.

Did you know that to temporarily meet the needs for meeting and Sunday School space, Covenant purchased an army surplus building?

On May 8, the Chancel Choir and Covenant Ringers continued a long tradition of music at Covenant with a special music service.

In April, Bruce and Ellen Hazelwood sent a reflection in honor of Covenant’s Anniversary and their time with us.

Covenant’s 100th Easter Celebration was indeed joyous.

Covenant’s egg hunt saw lots of rabbit ears (Pastor Mark included) and chick headbands scurrying through the yard and playground at Covenant.

With palm branches, choir and percussion, and very loud “Hosannas” from the congregation directed by Pastor Kevin, Covenant celebrated its 100th Palm Sunday.

In 1986, the Chancel Choir gave a set of four pottery communion cups and plates in memory of Millie Stretton.

Covenant celebrated Girl Scout Sunday on March 20.   To commemorate the event and the important place the Girl Scouts have in the Covenant Family, Brownie Troop 5555 and Senior Troop 5783 and their leaders will receive custom-made patches with the Covenant Anniversary logo.

If you’ve been by the church recently, you’ve probably seen the banner celebrating our Anniversary.  But have you seen it up close?

The February 26th edition of the NewsSpirit Digest of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference includes an article on Covenant’s Anniversary.

“On a windy and snowy day, just above freezing in 1922, a group of believers gathered to say: “We are the church.” This began the Call to Worship and a very meaningful worship experience to start Covenant’s 100th Anniversary Year.

Through its 100-year history, Covenant has had 17 senior pastors, 30 associate pastors, and 9 assistants who helped with visitation and ministries to families, youth and children.

Throughout the anniversary year, our Archivist, Nancy Hansen, will provide short histories each spanning 25 years. Here’s the first installment.
